I am Woman, Hear Me Roar!

This year’s midterm elections are super important, and I am proud to say I exercised my right to vote! I feel very blessed to live in a democratic society where I can voice my opinion and influence the current issues that I am passionate about. It’s fascinating to think that almost 100 years ago the 19th Amendment was ratified which allowed women to vote. It also got me thinking, 60 years ago, the feminist movement gained momentum and women started entering the workforce in large numbers. As a female entrepreneur, I feel very grateful I live in a time when I have the opportunity to start and run my own business according to my values, standards, and ethics.

We have made significant progress in our country regarding gender equality and women’s rights, but we still have some work to do. Only 5% of the 2018 Fortune 500’s CEOs are women (that’s 25 out of 500). And that’s down 25% from last year. Yikes! (If you want to read more about who made the list, click here: https://www.businessinsider.com/fortune-500-companies-women-ceos-2018-8). There is a multitude of speculations as to why women still haven’t broken the glass ceiling, but we can’t let the dismal statistics slow us down.

There is a definite paradigm shift occurring, and I’m so proud of the women who have stepped up and taken a stand against discrimination in the workplace. Change is in the air and now is the time to ask for that much-deserved promotion or salary increase or flexible schedule. Strike while the iron is hot!

So go out there and take advantage of the freedoms we have in America and the power we have as individuals to make a big impact. Let’s vote and support each other in making our dreams become a reality!
